CPFdn's purpose is to improve the quality of life of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and strengthen the western North Carolina region. Its focus is cultural preservation, economic development, job creation and environmental protection.

It has an office on the Qualla Boundary and works closely with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.
